I Chipped My Tooth and Made Everything Worse
Soo… I chipped my tooth. And instead of doing the smart thing, like call a dentist right away, I decided to just… wait.
Bad move. Real bad.
How It Happened
First of all, it wasn’t even a cool story. Like I didn’t get in a fight or skateboard off a roof or anything. I bit a fork. Like an idiot. Eating leftover spaghetti (cold, btw). I was just kinda zoning out watching Netflix, then crack.
At first it didn’t even hurt. I was like, “oh, haha, probably nothing.”
Looked in the mirror later and there it was — a little chip on my front tooth. Tiny but super obvious to me. Like I couldn’t unsee it after that.
The Genius Plan (aka NO Plan)
Here’s where I really messed up:
I thought, “I’ll just wait. It’s probably fine. Maybe it’ll fix itself or something?”
(Don’t laugh. I seriously thought that.)
I even tried filing it a little with a nail file… yeah. That was bad.
Made it rougher. I made the tooth more sensitive too. 😭
When It Got Worse
Few days later, I noticed it hurting when I drank cold stuff. Like a zing right to my brain. Plus, the rough edge was catching on my tongue and lips and driving me totally insane. I started talking weird because I didn’t want my tongue touching it.
Finally, I gave up pretending and booked an emergency appointment.
What the Dentist Said
Spoiler alert: it wasn’t “no big deal” like I hoped.
The dentist said that when you chip your tooth, even just a little, it can open up your tooth to bacteria. And you can also make a tiny chip WAY worse just by biting and chewing normally.
Basically, I was walking around with a tooth ticking time bomb.
Lucky for me, they just needed to smooth it and add some bonding.
Could’ve been worse if I waited longer. Could’ve cracked deeper or needed a crown or even a root canal. 😬
Lesson Learned
If you chip your tooth? Even a little? Just GO.
Dentists are chill about it. They see chipped teeth like every day. It’s not embarrassing (okay, it is a little lol) but seriously better to just get it fixed fast.
Also… DO NOT try to DIY your tooth. Like don’t even think about nail files. Just… no.
