I Thought My Cavity Was No Big Deal… Until It Was

I Thought My Cavity Was No Big Deal… Until It Was

February 21, 2025

I used to think cavities were just tiny problems. You get one, the dentist fills it, and boom—problem solved. Nothing to stress about, right? That was me… until I learned the hard way that ignoring a cavity can turn into a nightmare.

The Little Cavity That Could (Ruin My Life)

So here’s the thing. A few months ago, my dentist told me I had a small cavity. No pain, no sensitivity—just a little dot on my tooth. I shrugged it off and thought, “Eh, I’ll deal with it later.” Later turned into months.

Fast forward to one random Tuesday night, and BAM—out of nowhere, this insane pain hit me. Like, full-on, take-my-tooth-out-NOW kind of pain. I tried to sleep it off. Didn’t work. Took painkillers. Nothing. The pain just sat there, laughing at me.

Emergency Dentist: A Place I Never Wanted to Be

By the next morning, I was in a dentist’s chair, gripping the armrests like I was on a rollercoaster. The verdict? My cute little cavity had turned into a deep infection. I needed a root canal. Yep. That escalated quickly.

The dentist showed me an X-ray of my tooth, and I swear I almost passed out. The decay had spread like wildfire, reaching my nerve. That’s why it hurt so bad. And guess what? If I had just fixed it months ago, I could’ve avoided all of this.

Lessons Learned (the Painful Way)

So, here’s what I learned from being stubborn and avoiding the dentist:

  1. Cavities don’t fix themselves. No matter how tiny they are, they will only get worse.
  2. Pain means it’s already bad. If your tooth hurts, it’s probably too late for a simple fix.
  3. Dentists aren’t scary. What’s actually scary? A root canal bill and days of eating soup.

My Advice? Just Go to the Dentist.

Look, I get it. Life is busy, and the dentist isn’t exactly the most exciting place to be. But trust me—getting a small cavity filled is nothing compared to the torture of a tooth infection. Don’t be like me. Take care of your teeth before they decide to ruin your week (or your wallet).

I’m never skipping a dental visit again. Lesson learned.
